Oregon’s most dangerous intersection will see changes

Posted: Updated:
OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

There have been more than 300 accidents in recent years at one intersection in Oregon, making it the most dangerous intersection in that part of the city.

The city has received a grant to make the intersection at Navarre and Wheeling safer.

Drivers say there is constant traffic at the intersection, making turns difficult and dangerous.

"If a semi comes down and stops at the light, you can't see beyond where he's at to pull out or to pull in," said Joyce Hayek.

Hayek said she's waited up to 20 minutes trying to get out of Tim Horton's.

From 2009-2012, there have been 369 accidents at Navarre and Wheeling. Now, the city has received a grant that will pay up to 90 percent of the cost to make the intersection safer.

The project is still only in the planning stage. The city expects it to cost $2.7 million. The work will start from I-280 to Isaac Street.

"It makes me feel a lot better, especially in the winter time," said Lacee Hayek. "I've gotten so close to accidents, it's crazy."

The city plans to talk to business owners on Navarre next week, and construction is expected to start in 2015.
