WASHINGTON (WNEM) -

A familiar name in Michigan is now throwing her hat into the ring for a position in Washington.

Terri Lynn Land, formerly Michigan's 41st Secretary of State has announced her campaign for U.S. Senate.

Earlier this year, current Sen. Carl Levin announced he will not be seeking re-election in 2014 after serving more than 30 years.

This is the first time Michigan has had an open senate seat since 1994.

Land has been a member of the Republican national Committee since 2012. She served as Michigan Secretary of State from 2002-2010. She was unable to seek re-election in 2010 because of term limits.
