BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

The fate of a local school district remains uncertain after Tuesday night's board meeting.

Instead, the Buena Vista school board discussed finances regarding staff retirements and resignations. The board also voted on finalizing a $2-million loan from the Department of Education.

The loan will help prevent the district from defaulting on a school aid payment it received last August.

If the district doesn't pay off the loan from the state, it could have an impact on other school districts statewide.

Meanwhile, board President Randy Jackson also weighed in on the troubled schools bill.

He says he's frustrated because of the lack of answers from state officials.

Jackson said, "They've made the dissolution bill come through quickly. They made the signing get done rather quickly, but now here we are. We're in limbo. We don't know what to do at this point. We're running out of finances and things of that nature. Where do we need to go from here?"

The Buena Vista school superintendent says school officials could hear next week from the state whether the district will be dissolved.

Also, Rep. Stacy Erwin Oakes had scheduled a community forum regarding the consolidation of the district for Wednesday evening. That forum has since been canceled. It is not known as to when that forum will be rescheduled.
