Zilwaukee, MI (WNEM) -
Rescue crews were called to assist after a sailboat overturned in the Saginaw River near Zilwaukee.
The boat capsized around 1:40 p.m. just off Johnson Street, near the west bank of the Saginaw River, just upriver from the Zilwaukee Bridge.
WNEM.com has learned that three people were clinging to the craft, possibly without life preservers, for a few minutes until rescuers could get to them.
The Saginaw County Dive Team was called in, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard.
Around 2 p.m., WNEM.com got word that rescuers were working to upright the boat.
A TV5 photographer said the boaters were out using the small homemade sailboat for the first time with its sails up. A strong gust of wind turned the boat over. The three men on the boat are brothers and no injuries were reported.
