Two Tennessee police departments rank nationally on Twitter

Posted: Updated:
FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -

Besides protecting and serving, two police departments in Tennessee are also proving to be strong in social media.

Both Mt. Juliet police and Franklin police are the only two in the state that rank nationally on Twitter, according to the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Franklin police rank No. 3 on the list with less than 99 officers, and more than 5,000 followers; Mt. Juliet police rank No. 7 on the list with less than 49 sworn officers.

In a statement, Mt. Juliet Police Chief James Hambrick said, "Everywhere I go, I am constantly getting comments and appreciation for our use of Twitter and Facebook. I'm pleased our department has so many followers."

The departments created the Twitter account as another avenue to keep the public informed.
