A view of the Chesaning Showboat Music Festival stage.
CHESANING, MI (WNEM) -
WNEM.com has learned that all of the acts scheduled to perform at the Chesaning Showboat Music Festival will not take the stage.
TV5 confirmed the information with the Chamber of Commerce just before noon on Monday. Later in the day, Showboat Festival Board President Scott Hewitt told TV5 the concerts couldn't move forward.
"There were a host of factors that played into it so we just decided it had to happen," said Hewitt.
Hewitt would not explain what the factors were on Monday, but did say he is working with his team to determine exactly what went wrong.
"I can assure them as soon as I know, they'll know. That's about the best I can do right now. I don't know how long it's going to be before I can get that information out, but as soon as I know, they will know," said Hewitt.
The Charlie Daniels Band, Bret Michaels, Theory of a Dead Man and KC and the Sunshine Band will not perform. Charlie Daniels Band was set to play Tuesday night, followed by Bret Michaels on Wednesday night.
Right now it's not clear why they have been canceled or what will happen if you already have tickets. Norm Anderson and his wife paid about $200 for two VIP tickets to the Bret Michaels show scheduled for Wednesday night.
"Extremely upset because my wife's been waiting 2 1/2 months to go see Bret Michaels, so we could have went to Mt. Pleasant to see him, but just because he was coming to small town USA, now he's gone, so not going to happen," said Anderson.
Others, like Eric Kruske, who flew back to his Chesaning hometown from Seattle, told TV5 he's not mad but rather sad about the situation.
"I was shocked when I heard the news, and didn't believe it at first, but yeah, it's sad," said Kruske.
To view the Showboat's website, click here. Earlier Monday, the site was not accessible, possibly due to a flood of internet traffic. At about 5 p.m., the site came back online. On that site, show organizers state that "due to several factors Chesaning Showboat Music Festival 2013 concerts have been canceled. We will update our friends and fans as soon as information is available."
No one would tell TV5 the exact reasons for the cancellations, but some TV5 Facebook fans speculated that it was due to poor ticket sales.
We are working to get more information and will bring that to you when it becomes available.
