ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

Young and full of dreams to away to college and play softball, Emily Hepker's life changed when she was 18 and a senior in high school.

"On March 12, 2007, that's when they found out that 10 of the 12 biopsies they had taken were malignant," Emily said. "It's Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma of the duodenum."

Doctors gave Emily six months to live. Six years later, Emily admits she is living on borrowed time. Since March of this year, there have been more bad days than good, but her motto, "Fight cancer with a smile," keeps her going.

Emily's support team also keeps her going. Her number one fan is her mom Jessie, and they'll all stop at nothing to lift Emily's spirits and try to get the attention of someone who has helped get Emily through the last six years: Ellen DeGeneres.

"You have to smile, and laughter is the best medicine, and she's hysterical," Emily said. "So mom and I watch her. We'll watch her every day we had chemo. We had chemos every day for months and every day it would be right back on to Ellen."

Her support team won't stop until she meets Ellen, and neither will Emily.

"I have a lot of want," she said. "I have a lot of things I want to do in my life."
