VASSAR, MI (WNEM) -

A documentary detailing the life of local hero Travis Mills will premiere next month.

The Vassar native lost parts of all four limbs, after stepping on an improvised explosive device while fighting in Afghanistan.

The explosion happened back in April 2012. The Vassar native is still living near Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington D.C. He attends physical and occupation therapy several times a week. Mills takes the time to meet with injured soldiers.

The documentary titled, Travis: A Soldier's Story will premiere in Dallas, Texas on August 15.

No word on when it will be available in Mid-Michigan.

A nonprofit called Fotolanthropy reached a goal of raising more than $12,000 to produce the documentary.
