Police: Man let boy drive, crash truck in back yard

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan man is facing charges after police say he let a 9-year-old boy behind the wheel of a truck which rolled over and struck a tree in a neighbor's backyard.

Davison Township Police told TV5 four adults were at an outdoor party when they decided to take a vehicle and drive it around to the front. The driver then allegedly put a 9-year-old child in the front seat with him and it was then that the 9-year-old mashed down on the gas pedal, sending the car out of control, knocking down a neighbor's fence before finally coming to a stop by crashing into a tree.

The four adults were taken to an area hospital due to the crash. "There's concerns about level of intoxication while operating a vehicle, and since there was a child involved in operating this vehicle, they'll be looking at issues related to that child's welfare," said Davison Township Police Chief Rick Freeman.

Davison Township Police said they're still sifting through evidence and information in the case. Police said they hope to have their report in front of the Genesee County prosecutor by next week for possible charges.
