Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson says Shawn Newland was apprehended following more than three days of searching.
The sheriff's department says a 24-year-old woman told them she was physically assaulted and held against her will by Newland, 22, Saturday at a home in Colfax Township. Newland is from Bad Axe.
The woman says she was held against her will, physically assaulted with a knife. The woman was able to leave at one point in the evening. Newland fled into a wooded area in Huron County early Sunday morning and investigators had been searching for him since.
Hanson said Newland was captured around 10 a.m. Wednesday by the Alcona County Sheriff's office and a Michigan State Police K-9 unit at a home in Alcona County.
"We received information yesterday that he had fled to Alcona County sometime that morning, or before, possibly due to family ties in that county," said Hanson.
Hanson said further criminal charges in Alcona County are likely because of separate offenses that occurred during the apprehension. Hanson said two deputies are en route to Harrisville to bring Newland back to their jail.
Pending charges are being reviewed by our Prosecutor's Office and formal charges are expected tomorrow.
"Many tips came in over the last couple of days and I would like to thank the media, along with the citizens who reported them," said Hanson.
