Police arrest suspect 36 hours after home invasion

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Saginaw police were called to investigate a home invasion on Wednesday night after a man broke into a house in the 1200 block of S. Michigan.

The home invasion occurred around 10 p.m. and during the incident a .22 caliber rifle was stolen. The suspect had fled the scene by the time police arrived.

Police said two Saginaw city residents witnessed the incident and stepped forward with suspect information. This case was assigned to Saginaw Police Det. Dean Kaufman who was able to obtain positive identification and sought a search warrant for the suspect.

Friday morning, around 7 a.m., Saginaw police along with MSP troopers executed the search warrant in the 700 block of Saginaw Street in the city. The suspect, a 22-year-old was arrested on sight and the .22 caliber rifle that was stolen was recovered.

That suspect is currently lodged in the Saginaw County Jail.

A police news release stated, "This arrest and gun recovery could not have happened without good citizens stepping up and speaking out. Good job Saginaw!"
