OKLAHOMA (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan man's trip to visit the grave of his father in Oklahoma was cut short by a tragic accident.

Charles Peters, 68, of Owosso, was driving his mule-pulled caravan in Arkansas when he was rear ended by a truck. Unfortunately his mules were killed in the crash. Peters was taken to a hospital and was later released.

He said he's not letting the accident stop him from paying his respects to his father.

"I wouldn't give this trip up for anything," said Peters. "And if people ask me what it would take for me to quit, I just say I don't understand the question. I won't quit."

Peters says he plans to head back to Michigan to train two new mules and begin his journey again in the spring of 2014.
