Some Residents and business owners in the Old Town Business District in Saginaw are furious over the city's decision to remove dozens of trees, along Hamilton Street near Court Street.
"It's terrible," said Mary Franz.
Franz said she frequents the Red Eye Coffee Shop on Hamilton, where patrons normally sit outside in the shade to drink their coffee.
"It's too hot… those trees provided shade along Hamilton Street for businesses and cars too," she added.
Franz said city workers removed the trees on the northbound side of Hamilton Street yesterday, and then came back today, to remove the trees on the southbound side.
Not everyone agrees that the tree removal is a bad thing.
"The city project over there on Fordney went really well… I can only hope they have those plans for this area as well," said Brian Lechel.
TV5 attempted to contact the city, to find out why the trees had been removed, no one was available to comment, but a source revealed that the trees were severely rotted out, due to an ash borer infestation.
Residents hope the city decides to replant the trees.
