9 car break-ins at BG park

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Bowling Green Police need help finding the person responsible for nine car break-ins at Carter Park.

While people were watching baseball at the park, police say a thief was breaking into their cars, stealing everything in sight, including purses, electronics and even clothing. Some vehicles were left unlocked, but the thief smashed windows to get inside others.

Police say this crime is unusual because it happened during daylight hours, at a crowded park.

"There was some level of risk for the person to do this at the time of day that it was, as well as the amount of people that were around," said Major Tony Hetrick, deputy chief of the Bowling Green Police Department. "But they wanted to perpetuate this crime, and they did so pretty much right under the noses of everybody that was out there."

Police say the best way to keep belongings safe is to leave them in the trunk or keep them with you at all times.

Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to call Crimestoppers at 419-352-0077.
