An off-duty Maricopa County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man who charged him with a bat Sunday night in Gila Bend.
Sheriff's officials said the deputy was working in the Gila Bend area about 10:30 p.m. Sunday when a call came in about a domestic violence incident.
A couple was arguing on a street and the woman's boyfriend allegedly was threatening her with a baseball bat, MCSO said.
The deputy was the first to arrive on the scene and the man refused commands to drop the bat, sheriff's investigators said.
The deputy said the man then charged him in an aggressive manner and he feared for his life and shot the man once in the chest.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities on Monday identified the dead man as 30-year-old Warren G. Cipriano.
