Flint library officials are cutting jobs and rolling back hours of operation as part of an effort to balance the budget.
The Flint Library Board of Trustees voted Thursday to lay off two full-time librarians, two assistant librarians and two clerks, finishing staff cuts approved in June. The cuts take effect Sept. 1 and also include a making a full-time custodial position part-time.
The library is funded largely through a property tax millage that has collected less revenue in recent years because of falling property values.
The budget deficit is being blamed on declining property values and lower tax revenue.
