FREELAND, MI (WNEM) -
MBS International Airport will receive a nearly $1.4 million federal grant to rehabilitate runway, apron and terminal facilities.
The announcement was made by Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow on Friday.
"Access to air service is a building block of a strong economy, and this grant will help ensure safe and efficient operations at MBS International Airport," Levin said.
"Making sure passengers are able to travel to and from the Tri City area safely is vital to the region's economy," said Senator Stabenow. "I am pleased this funding will support critical improvements at MBS International Airport to help keep travelers safe, reduce flight delays, and promote economic development in the region."
The $1.38 million Federal Aviation Administration grant will fund installation of an access control system and flight-information displays in the airport's terminal building; rehabilitation of runway markings on the airport's two runways; and rehabilitation of markings on the airport's taxiways and aprons.
