Protestors create a petition signing event "Stop Stand Your Ground in Ohio
EAST CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
A press conference at the Chateau Mansion, 13124 Euclid Ave., in East Cleveland took place Saturday to stop the Stand Your Ground law from coming to Cleveland.
At the presser a petition blitz was launched to stop the law which has been introduced in the state legislature. Ohio House Bill 203 would bring the controversial law that was widely discussed during the Florida trial which resulted in the acquittal of George Zimmerman for the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
Throughout the remainder of the weekend circulators will visit several churches and shopping malls in an effort to gather as many signatures as possible.
The completed petitions must be turned in at 8 p.m. Monday, August 5, at the Chateau Mansion.
For more information call the Ohio Eighth House District Black Caucus Chairman Charles E. Bibb Sr. at 216-659-4619.
