MGM has been billed $1.4 million for background check by state

Last month, MGM was the first Western Mass casino applicant to have its community host agreement approved by voters.

So far, they are also being billed more than any other applicant for its background check with the state's gaming commission.

The commission has billed the company $1.4 million.

CBS 3 media partner Mass Live and The Republican reported that it is a result of the casino's global and national operations.

In all, there are 11 companies vying for the four casinos statewide.

The gaming commission said it expects the companies to pay a total of $9.6 million for background checks.

Hard Rock, which is looking to build a casino resort in West Springfield, has been billed $308,000.

Mohegan Sun, which is planning a casino resort in Palmer, has been billed $243,000.
