Flash Flood Watch in effect through Friday morning

Posted: Updated:

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the Upstate (excluding Cherokee and Union counties), all of NE Georgia, as well as Macon, southern Jackson, Transylvania, Henderson, and Polk counties in Western NC.  This goes from now through 6:00am Friday, though with the amount of rainfall expected, we could see this timeline lengthen at some point today.

Right now, there are a few isolated showers in the Upstate, with pockets of heavier rain setting up in NE Georgia as of 11:30am.  Otherwise, we're seeing mostly cloudy skies and a few peeks of sunshine.  Any sun that we do see will act as a "trigger mechanism", allowing the heat and humidity to build and subsequently enhancing the potential rainfall amounts.  Between 2-6" of rain has fallen over the Upstate in the last 2 days, with just under 1" for most of Western NC.  Saturated grounds plus the potential for strong rain again today leads us to the flash flood concern.  Stay with us on air and online throughout the day and night for the latest, and remember to "Turn Around, Don't Drown" when you drive up to flooded roadways.
