SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Two men are behind bars after allegedly breaking into a Saginaw Township home and assaulting two residents.

The home invasion happened at a home on Vincent, near Kendrick Street around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Saginaw Township Police Chief Donald Pussehl said when the first officer arrived at the house, he saw a male suspect run from the scene. That officer chased the suspect, but lost him in a wooded area.

When a second officer arrived on the scene, he said he saw a second suspect run from the area, followed by the victim saying that the suspects had robbed them.

Pussehl said with assistance from the Saginaw Police's K-9 unit and officers, Michigan State Police troopers and Saginaw County Sheriff deputies, the two suspects were located and arrested within a short time.

Saginaw Township police said the suspects, armed with handguns, beat a 30-year-old man, sexually assaulted a 23-year-old woman and then robbed them.

The 26 and 29-year-old suspects, who are city of Saginaw residents, are expected to be formally charged with 35 counts on Friday. They're currently lodged in the Saginaw County Jail.
