Waco, Texas - The Saginaw Valley State University football team is ranked No. 22 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II preseason poll. The Cardinals registered 140 points to land in the 22nd slot in the initial poll of the 2013 season.
The Cardinals are coming off an 8-3 2012 campaign and second-straight GLIAC North Division Championship.
"It's always great to get positive publicity and attention for our program and university, but we know preseason polls aren't going to mean much in the middle of the season," SVSU coach Jim Collins said. "We have to play the games, and our focus in camp right now is continuing to get better as a team."
SVSU opens its 2013 season Sept. 5 on the road at Northwest Missouri State, which appears at No. 4 in the initial preseason poll, coming off a 2012 season in which it went 10-3 overall.
