It's a prize that no one is in a hurry to cash as a minor league baseball team gave away a free funeral Tuesday night.
Steve Paul of Pennsylvania won an all expenses paid funeral from the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs. He says winning the contest was an answer to his prayers. He says it is a relief to know that his family won't have to worry about shouldering the financial burden of his death expenses.
The team held a contest asking people to describe the perfect funeral in less than 200 words.
Paul was recently diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease and described his perfect funeral as a tight knit affair of stories and jokes.
Kevin Reichel, the funeral director of Reichel Funeral Home, says he agreed to sponsor the promotion because most people don't think about after-death arrangements until it is too late.
Paul's prize package includes a casket, embalming or cremation, hearse, headstone, flowers and a funeral or memorial. The package is worth nearly $10,000.
The team says this contest is meant to help celebrate life, not glamorize death.
