WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A hospital spokeswoman says a Macomb County boy critically hurt last week while in the care of his mother's boyfriend has died.

Children's Hospital of Michigan spokeswoman Vickie Dahlman-Anger says 2-year-old Damian Sutton died Tuesday.

Damian suffered massive swelling in parts of his brain and had been in a medically-induced coma since Wednesday.

Police say Ronald Dimambro attacked the child last week while babysitting him in Washington Township, about 30 miles north of Detroit. The 26-year-old was arrested on charges of first-degree child abuse.

Dimambro is being held on a $500,000 bond. His preliminary examination is scheduled for Tuesday. Dimambro could face stiffer penalties if convicted under Dominick's Law.

The law is named after Dominick Calhoun, who died after being attacked by his mother's boyfriend inside their Argentine Township home back in 2010.

Brandon Hayes is currently serving a life sentence in that case.
