Court records show an 18-year-old Flint man accused of killing four people including a 9-year-old boy escaped from a group home four months earlier.
MLive.com says Deonte Gray fled the Jackson facility in March before he was questioned about an assault against another youth. He was convicted in 2010 of felonious assault and home invasion.
Tricia Raymond was Gray's attorney on that case. She says he was released too soon from a juvenile facility in Grayling to the group home.
Raymond says Gray is intelligent but came from a violent environment with little family support.
The Associated Press left a message for the attorney representing Gray on the first-degree murder charges. Authorities say he killed three people July 15 and one Aug. 17.
