A Michigan prosecutor has filed first-degree murder charges against a man accused of beating his girlfriend's 2-year-old son.
Two-year-old Damian Sutton died Tuesday at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.
Police say that 26-year-old Ronald Dimambro attacked the child last week while babysitting him in Washington Township, about 30 miles north of Detroit.
Dimambro was arrested on a first-degree child abuse charge, and Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith in Mount Clemens announced Wednesday that he was increasing the charge to first-degree murder.
Conviction carries a mandatory penalty of life in prison without parole. Dimambro's arraignment is scheduled Sept. 10 in Romeo District Court.
Smith says an autopsy showed that Damian died of blunt force trauma.
