Police: Argument escalates into drive-by shooting

Posted: Updated:

Davison Township Police responded to a report of shots fired around midnight on Wednesday at the Windsor Palace apartment complex off Irish Road.

Officers said their investigation indicated a 24-year-old Davison Township man arrived home to his apartment building when he saw a car in the parking lot he recognized as belonging to his estranged 18-year-old girlfriend, who is also a resident at the complex.

As the man approached the vehicle, he saw his girlfriend in the driver's seat with a man, thought to be a juvenile wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, sitting in the front passenger seat. In the back seat was another woman and the 4-month-old son of the Davison Township man and his girlfriend.

Investigators told WNEM.com that words were exchanged between the man and the front seat passenger before the man threw a frying pan at the car and started to walk back to his apartment. Police said it was at this point that the vehicle pulled out, and reportedly the man in the front seat, with his life not in any danger or need to defend anyone else, pulled a handgun and fired several rounds towards the man. The apartment resident was able to take cover and wasn't struck. Police said while no one was injured, several vehicles in the lot were hit by bullets.

"This type of incident is taken very seriously," said Davison Township Police Chief Rick Freeman in a news release. "This reckless, cowardly disregard for life and property will not be tolerated."

Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at 810-653-5656.
