A local teen has died more than a week after he was brutally beaten in Genesee County.
Burton Police says 17-year-old Benjamin Tatro had been on life support ever since he was assaulted on Aug. 20.
Police said the victim was at a house party in the 1400 block of Carman Street in Burton when a fight broke out and he was brutally beaten by several men. He was transported to an area hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries. He was then placed on life support. On Aug. 28, Tatro succumbed to the injuries he sustained from the assault.
Rickey Zinn II, 23, has been charged with open murder in the beating. He is currently lodged in the Genesee County Jail.
A second suspect was also arrested on Saturday. That suspect has yet to be identified and is awaiting charges.
Police are working to identify and arrest other people involved in the attack. Anyone with information is urged to contact Lt. Mike Odette at 810-742-2542.
Meanwhile, funeral services for Tatro will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Watkins Bothers Funeral Home in Durand.
