The Gratiot County sheriff says a fight between brothers got ugly after the pushing and shoving turned into threats with an ax and long gun.

Gratiot County Sheriff Greg Wright said around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, two brothers got into an argument in their home on Woodbridge Road, near the intersection of Tyler Road in Wheeler Township.

The argument escalated into pushing and shoving, and the older brother, 22-year-old Daniel James House, pushed his 19-year-old brother through a door and outside.

Wright said the younger brother called his mom at work, who then called a female neighbor to check on the feuding brothers. Wright said the woman went to the home, where Daniel then came out onto the porch, picked up a 5-pound maul and threateningly waved it at her.

Daniel then went inside the house and came back out with a long gun where Wright said he continued to make threats and threaten to shoot her car.

That neighbor was able to flee the property with the younger brother in her car. A sheriff's deputy arrived and checked out the victims, who were unharmed. More deputies arrived on scene and set up a perimeter. Both roads were blocked for one mile in each direction.

Wright said the Michigan State Police emergency services team arrived with an armored personnel carrier. They tried to communicate with Daniel, and set off a flash-bang grenade outside the home. A robot with a camera was then sent in, but there was no sign of Daniel. Authorities determined that he fled the scene and ended the blockades around 3 a.m. Friday.

As of Friday morning, Daniel James House remains at large. A warrant is out for his arrest on felonious assault charges. Anyone with information as to his whereabouts is urged to contact the Gratiot County Sheriff's department at 989-875-5211.
