An East Texas man who was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, and given between 6 months to a year to live, wants to marry his girlfriend of 28 years before it's too late.
Terry French's family is planning a wedding for him to marry his girlfriend Dianne Donaldson on Tuesday.
"I kept thinking about her and I'd call her answering machine when I knew she wasn't home, just to hear her voice," said Terry, the groom.
It was love at first sight for Terry and Dianne, and since Terry's diagnosis, he says it's time to marry the love of his life.
"Finally I decided since I'm sick and don't know how much time I got left that it's the right thing to do and I want to. I love her. I've been with her 28 years," said Terry.
It's something the couple has always wanted to do but never managed to make happen.
"They considered going to the Justice of the Peace and dad said, 'I want a wedding,'" said April Servine, the daughter of Terry and Dianne.
Terry and Dianne's three daughters have been planning the entire wedding
"It's insane and it's fun; don't get me wrong, but it is stressful, and it's crazy, and it is insane. It's good chaos, though, fun chaos," said Erin French, daughter of Terry and Dianne.
The girls have 11 more days to make it happen but say everything from the cake to the wedding dress has been donated.
"I'm going to cry; it's so overwhelming from the support from everybody and the prayers. We can't express how much it means to all of us that people are willing to help," said Sara French, daughter of Terry and Dianne.
As for the girls, they want to fulfill their father's dying wish.
"He had a bucket list and he said this is what he wants more than anything, is to have this day and get married," said Erin.
"I'm excited about it now! I can't wait!" said Terry.
"It's going to be kind of a surprise, so we really don't know what is going to happen," said Dianne. "Spend the rest of our lives together. We planned on that anyway; this just seals the deal."
Terry's next wish is to take his soon-to-be wife somewhere she's never been: the beach.
