Scherzer outdueled by Lester as Tigers fall to Red Sox 2-1

Cy Young Award candidate Max Scherzer was outdueled by Jon Lester as the Tigers fall to the Red Sox 2-1.

Miguel Cabrera returned to the lineup after missing 3 games to rest various nagging injuries, but went 0-4 with a strikeout.

Scherzer started and earned the loss, going 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 8. It was Scherzer's first loss since July 13. His record is now 19-2.

Jon Lester also threw 7 innings, scattering 8 hits, 1 run, and registered a season-high 9 K's.

Rick Porcello takes the mound in the series finale Wednesday night against the Boston's Ryan Dempster.
