FLINT, MI (WNEM) -
Flint Township police are alerting Mid-Michigan to a missing person case.
Darwin Smith, 76, was last seen Tuesday, Sept. 3 between 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Genesee Gardens, 4495 Calkins Rd., just east of Linden Road.
Authorities said Smith walked away from Genesee Gardens where he is recovering from a stroke. Smith is described as standing 5'10" tall.
On Wednesday night, about 25 family members and friends searched for Smith. His son, Jeff Smith, told TV5 they're concentrating the search in the Flushing and Grand Blanc area. Darwin Smith lived in Flushing before he left Genesee Gardens, and his wife lives at a nursing home in Grand Blanc. He said he might be confused.
"He took his wallet, which has a driver's license in it, he had no credit cards, there was no money, he had a pocket full of change, maybe $3, and a ballcap, other than that, nothing that we know of," said Jeff Smith.
Jeff Smith said his father had a stroke three months ago and is suffering mild dementia and becomes easily confused.
"He was able to walk around easy, just his limitation was in his mind," said Jeff Smith.
Anyone that may have information on Darwin Smith's location is urged to contact the Flint Township Police Department at 810-600-3250.
