STANDISH, MI (WNEM) -

First responders asked motorists to avoid M-61 between 11 mile and Saunders for a few hours Wednesday after a serious crash forced them to close that roadway near Standish.

Arenac County authorities and Michigan State Police were on the scene of the rollover crash that reportedly had at least one person and a pet trapped for a time. The accident occurred sometime before 2:30 p.m.

A Flightcare helicopter was also reportedly en route to the scene. A TV5 photographer at the scene said the crash only involved one vehicle. The driver, a man, was taken to an area hospital and the dog was taken by a Good Samaritan animal agency.

Video from the scene looks to show a Ford Explorer that went off the road before striking a tree, causing serious damage to the truck.

WNEM.com is working to gather more details about the situation and we'll update this story as that information comes into our newsroom.
