A local road construction project that was supposed to be finished by Labor Day is not complete, and now frustrated residents are wondering why it's taking so long.
Drivers say they're frustrated because they were told the project that began in June would be wrapped up by now. Motorists say they're confused about what's causing the delay.
Back in May, residents were mailed a letter from the Saginaw County Road Commission, saying the project would be completed by Labor Day.
TV5 took the tough questions to the road commission. Project Manager Ryan Whiteherst says crews got off to a late start and encountered some unexpected elements.
"We came across several unforeseen circumstances with existing storm sewage and drainage structures," said Whiteherst.
Whiteherst says some of the pipes that crews ran into while digging in the ground caused them to have to rework the projects design.
The road commission encourages drivers that the project will be worth all the hassle when it's finished.
"Even for all the unforeseen circumstances, it's going to end up being a great project and will address traffic flow through the area," says Whiteherst.
The road commission expects it will take a few more weeks to complete the project.
Drivers say they look forward to seeing the construction end soon.
