The Gladwin County Sheriff's department said deputies were dispatched to a crash scene early Sunday morning involving a vehicle that had rolled over.
The crash happened just before 5 a.m. on Guernsey Creek Trail near Eastman Road in Bentley Township. Deputies found three passengers who said they'd been ejected from their friend's 1997 Jeep Wrangler during the rollover crash.
One of the passengers, a 22-year-old woman from Sanford, was taken by ambulance to Mid Michigan Hospital in Midland. That woman sustained serious injuries but has since stabilized.
The passengers told authorities that the driver of the Jeep was traveling westbound and lost control, rolling the Jeep and ejecting the passengers. The Jeep landed back on its wheels and deputies said the driver fled the scene. Investigators said the roof portion of the Jeep was torn away from the vehicle during the rollover.
Police said they were later informed that another passenger, an 18-year-old from Sanford, was injured during the crash and had been dropped off at Mid Michigan Hospital in Midland.
Deputies said the driver was later identified as a 22-year-old man from Sanford and their case will be forwarded on to prosecutors for any possible criminal charges against him.
Investigators said speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash and their probe into it continues.
