MT. MORRIS TWP. MI (WNEM) -

Family members tell WNEM TV5 reporter Gino Vicci that the body of missing 76-year-old Darwin Smith was found in Mt. Morris Township.

Smith's body was found near the corner of N. Linden and Pasadena, behind an apartment complex, by area water and sewer workers deep in a wooded area.

Flint Township police, who have handled Smith's missing person's case, said it was a one-in-a-million chance that the workers found his body. Police said it appeared Smith died from natural causes.

Smith was last seen Tuesday, Sept. 3 between 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Genesee Gardens, 4495 Calkins Rd., just east of Linden Road.

Authorities said Smith walked away from Genesee Gardens where he was recovering from a stroke.

Smith's son, Jeff Smith, told TV5 his father lived in Flushing before he left Genesee Gardens, and his wife lives at a nursing home in Grand Blanc.

"At least now we know where he is," said Jeff Smith, who later thanked the community for their support in trying to locate his father's body.
