First book from series to be released in May 2014
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Cindy Pearlman and Vickie Chachere, writing as C.L. Gaber and V.C. Stanley, have signed a deal with best-selling author and Editor Jacquelyn Mitchard at Merit Press for a series of Young Adult Teen books featuring "Jex Malone". The first book of the series will be published May 2014 and will introduce young adult audiences to 16-year-old, New Jersey native Jex Malone. Jex is forced to spend summers with the homicide detective father she barely knows, a self-absorbed lawman who works the Vegas Strip. John Malone knows how to bust criminals, but he's in 'officer in need of assistance' mode when it comes to having a real relationship with his daughter. Now that Jex is older, he's finally enforcing a court order that mandates his daughter spend all of her summers with him until she is of age. For Jex, it's like being sent to a lockup. Anticipating this will be the worst summer of her entire life, she arrives in scorching hot Nevada and meets three equally bored-to-death 16-year-old girls in the neighborhood. Looking for something to do, they dig into Detective Malone's cold case files and discover information about a missing girl who once lived around the corner. Patty, a young girl with dark secrets, disappeared 15 years ago into thin air on a hot summer night and the case remains unsolved. Jex and her friends decide to pursue the case despite a trail of evidence that puts them at risk of becoming victims themselves.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Twenty-nine years ago in a Mass Communications class at Arizona State University, Vickie Chachere and Cindy Pearlman sat down next to each other and have been best friends ever since. Represented by Pringle Creative, Cindy (C.L.), a well-known entertainment industry journalist and Vickie (V.C.), a veteran newsperson – share a fascination with the drama that is real life, as well as a unique perspective that strong women and girls bring to the world. After 30 years of almost daily calls, incalculable shopping trips, husbands, kids, and more shoes than they will ever admit to owning, they hope to revive the girl detective series and have created a work that is a tribute to the life lesson that's made their friendship an enduring one: The stranger sitting next to you might just be one of the greatest treasures fate will ever hand you. Oh, and never – ever - underestimate a nosy girl!
