House fire kills man, 2 others escape flames

GOODLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WNEM) -

An early morning house fire has killed one man and left two young people without a roof over their heads.

The Lapeer County Sheriff's department said officers and firefighters were called to a house on Black Corner Road near Clear Lake Road in Imlay City around 2:45 a.m. Thursday.

Crews were warned on their way to the fire that there were occupants trapped inside the residence, which was described as being a 1-and-a-half story home.

Authorities said a 17-year-old escaped to the home's roof and was rescued by crews using a ladder. A 23-year-old was also able to escape the smoke and flames. The fire increased in intensity and eventually consumed the whole structure.

One the blaze was brought under control around 4:40 a.m., the 17 and 23-year-old 's father's body was found inside the home. That man has been identified as 52-year-old Ricardo Rinconeno, 52, of Imlay City.

The Michigan State Police fire investigation unit was called in to probe the fire's origins. State Police fire investigator Sgt. Lenny Jaskulka said the fire appeared to originate in the kitchen's stove. Authorities said foul play is not suspected.
