Franklin play park closed for business

FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -

Kids' birthday parties are supposed to be happy occasions, but this wasn't the case for parents in Franklin who discovered the venue they had booked for their children's parties was closed and locked up tight.

This sign on the door of the Inside Out Play Park in Franklin reads, "Our apologies, but we are closed for business."

Jarren Ward turned 3 years old on Sunday. His mother, Erica, had booked the party at Inside Out Play Park, then found the phone disconnected, the door locked and that her $100 had disappeared.

"It's gone now. I had to come up with more money to come up (with) another place to have his birthday the day before his party," Ward said.

Callie Casey, who owns Workout Anytime next door, knows the owners of the play park, Tim and Michaela McPartland. She says they were good people who were excited about their business and were hoping to franchise.

Then she got an odd text: "That said, 'I don't know if you heard, we'll miss you neighbor. Go strong for us,'" Casey said. She said there was no explanation.

Channel 4 tried the McPartland home in Franklin, but no one answered the door.

"It makes me sad. It makes me sad because they were my friends," Casey said. "And to see anybody go down in business is unfortunate."

Ward was able to rearrange her son's party at the last minute.

"I lost my money, but at least my son had a good birthday party somewhere else," she said.

For families trying to recover their lost deposits, unfortunately, the forecast is not very sunny.
