Man wanted in connection to woman's death arrested in Saginaw
SAGINAW, MI (WNEM/AP) -
Police in southwestern Michigan are investigating the death of a 56-year-old woman whose body was found inside her apartment.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports police are conducting the investigation into the death of Delores Mae Smith as a homicide probe but are awaiting the results of an autopsy expected Friday.
Smith's body was found Thursday in Portage after police responded to a request to check her welfare. She didn't show up for work that day at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home.
WNEM.com later learned Saginaw police arrested a person in connection to the slaying on the city's east side Thursday night around 9:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of S. Warren Street. That man has been transfered into the custody of Portage Police and is currently being held in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
Newschannel 3 in western Michigan reported Thursday "that a man walked into work in Saginaw while covered in blood, and after telling his boss what happened, the boss reportedly called police." That phone call is what led investigators to find Smith's body.
