NAACP hosts Freedom Fund Banquet

It was a big night for three people making a difference in the community and around the country as the Saginaw County branch of the NAACP hosted its 43rd annual Freedom Fund Banquet.

The Saginaw County branch hosts the event to recognize organizations and people making a difference in the community.

People like the Rev. Rufus Bradley, pastor of New Life Baptist Church. "It feels good to know that other people recognize what we're doing. I think that's a big motivational plus in our lives, just to know that somebody's thinking about what we're doing," says Bradley.

Saginaw native Dr. Lawrence Crawford returned to the area to receive a special honor for his work in the business community. Currently the chairman and chief executive officer of Diversity-Vuteq, LLC, he says it's always nice to be recognized, especially at home.

"To be honored in my hometown by people who know me is fabulous. It makes me feel good," said Crawford.

Former Saginaw mayor Jean Goodnow was also honored. Goodnow is the current president of Delta College.

"I'm very humbled to have been nominated for this recognition when I consider the people who have been in this category that I admire and respect," said Goodnow.

More than 15 organizations were also honored.
