A former Detroit police officer has been sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison for criminal sexual conduct that authorities say involved young people he met through a boot camp program advertised for troubled youth.
Court records show 46-year-old Geoffrey Townsend was sentenced Monday in Oakland County Circuit Court in Pontiac. He earlier was convicted by a jury.
The Oakland Press of Pontiac reports defense lawyer John Brusstar says his client had plenty of support and has done "a lot of great things."
The incidents reportedly occurred in Townsend's Farmington Hills home, northwest of Detroit. Prosecutors say Townsend met young people through the boot camp "Reality Check Detroit," which he operated outside his employment as a police officer.
