Robbery suspect hit with exploding dye pack ID'd

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

WNEM.com has learned that a bank robbery took place at a Bank of America branch on Dixie Highway on Monday morning and police now have a suspect in custody in connection to the crime.

James Gilginas, 45, has been formerly charged with armed robbery of the bank in Buena Vista Township.

Initial reports into TV5 indicated that Gilginas was driving in a black pickup truck was hit by an exploding dye pack that banks tuck into bundles of money.

Gilginas was last seen driving down Bewick Street, about three blocks south of Hess Avenue.

Monday evening, the Saginaw Police Department received a tip that said Gilginas' vehicle was located behind an abandoned house on 9th Street. After investigating, officers with Saginaw and Buena Vista Township police as well as Michigan State Police were able to apprehend Gilginas at a local motel.

Gilginas will be in court in two weeks.
