PD: Teenager punches 2 male teachers in face

NORWALK, CT (WFSB) -

A 15-year-old is accused of punching two teachers in the face which caused administrators to place a charter school in Norwalk in lockdown Monday afternoon.

An unidentified teenager entered the Side by Side Charter School, which is located at 10 Chestnut St., through a "rear external classroom door" around 2:45 p.m., police said.

"It was learned that the suspect initially pounded on one door but then entered a classroom through a second door which was closed but whose lock was not fully engaged," police said in release Monday.

The suspect was located by a male teacher and was being walked out of the building by that teacher when the teenager hit him. A second male teacher tried to step in, but he was also assaulted, police said.

The suspect fled the building, but was arrested in the school parking lot a short time later.

Police said because of the teenager's "behavior, motor skills and mentation," investigators believe the suspect was on drugs. The teenager was taken to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation.

The Side by Side Charter School, which is not part of the Norwalk Public School system, was placed in lockdown for a brief period of time while the incident was investigated.

Neither of the teachers were seriously injured, police said.

The teenager, who is "known to police," was charged with two counts of third-degree assault and one count of criminal trespass on school grounds and risk of injury to a minor.

The suspect was found in possession of less than .5 grams of marijuana.

The teenager was released to his grandmother with a summons to appear in juvenile court on Oct. 2.
