Posted: Updated:

Norwich police said a woman escaped her accused kidnapper by jumping through the drive-thru window at a fast-food restaurant Friday night.

The unidentified woman, who is from East Haddam, was taken at gunpoint just before 10 p.m. and driven to the Burger King on Salem Turnpike.

Police said the woman managed to get out of the vehicle and climbed into the drive-thru window.

Police eventually tracked down and arrested 30-year-old Davendra Persaud, of Lybrook, NY.

Investigators said the victim and the suspect knew each other.

Persaud was charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree unlawful restraint, two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and carrying a handgun without a permit.

Persaud was arraigned at Middlesex Superior Court on Monday. His case was continued until Oct. 22.

Persaud is being held on $200,000 bond.
