Mich. to release cost of health insurance plans

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -

Michigan's uninsured residents will soon learn the cost of health insurance plans being offered on a new marketplace created under the federal health care overhaul.

Officials on Tuesday will release premium information for 73 Michigan health plans approved by the federal and state governments. The release coincides with the first day of a six-month enrollment window.

People earning between 100 and 400 percent of the poverty line will qualify for tax credits to offset monthly premiums. Besides the uninsured, small businesses and those who buy their own insurance may shop on the exchange.

The health law requires everyone to have coverage in 2014 or face fines.

To buy a plan, visit www.healthcare.gov . The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services also has created a premium estimator at www.michigan.gov/hicap .
