SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Michael Lawrence, the man sought in connection to the homicides of a young girl in 2012 and his girlfriend in 2013, has been returned to Mid-Michigan and has faced a judge.

Lawrence was arraigned just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on two murder charges and other felonies. In all, Lawrence was hit with more than 30 charges. Prosecutors asked for no bond, citing Lawrence as being a flight risk. He will remain lodged in the Saginaw County Jail following that arraignment with no bond set.

Lawrence told the judge he has his own funding for a lawyer and refused a court appointed attorney. The judge set the preliminary hearing for Oct. 14.

Lawrence was captured in Las Vegas, Nevada in September.

TV5's Gino Vicci tweeted that the courtroom was full of people 20 minutes before Lawrence was due in court. Vicci tweeted a photo showing that packed courtroom, which is viewable to the right.

Lawrence had been a wanted man in connection to the murder of 6-year-old Layla Jones and the homicide of his girlfriend, Angelica Olivarez. Layla was killed during a shooting just over a year ago in Saginaw.

Then in mid-April of 2013, police were called to a home in Saginaw after Olivarez's 3-year-old son, whom she fathered with Lawrence, was found wandering the streets by a neighbor after his mother was killed and is believed to have been left alone for hours following her death.

Following the arraignment, Olivarez's mother told TV5 that she's dreading the time she'll spend in court listening to the facts of the trial regarding her daughter's murder.

Vicci reported via twitter that Lawrence held his chin up high as charges were read and at times smirked as he looked over at Olivarez's family.

In July, another man, JeVonne Greer, was convicted on 18 felony counts including murder, in the shooting death of Layla. He will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
