FLORENCE, AZ (CBS5) -
A pair accused of shoplifting face additional charges of fraud and forgery after equipment used to make false IDs was discovered in their vehicle, Pinal County sheriff's deputies said.
Authorities learned the pair had argued with a loss prevention officer outside a San Tan Valley Walmart at 1725 W. Hunt Hwy. on Saturday.
Deputies said Richard Colby, 45, of Mesa, and Janelle Mancuso, 37, of Selah, WA, left the store without paying for a set of luggage and drove away.
A deputy saw the vehicle and began following it in the area of Rittenhouse and Combs. The vehicle pulled into a nearby parking lot and Colby walked into a church, while Mancuso stayed in the vehicle.
Colby told deputies when they approached him that he was a member of the church, PCSO said. The other church members quickly let the deputies know that Colby was a stranger to them, PCSO said.
As Colby and Mancuso were taken into custody, they both provided false names, authorities said. The stolen luggage was located in plain view inside of the vehicle, sheriff's deputies said.
Detectives said inside the vehicle they found false photo identifications for the pair, along with fake checks, business cards and retail store memberships in their names. PCSO also found computers and other equipment used to create false documents.
Sheriff's deputies said they learned Colby and Mancuso were wanted for other outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants from earlier cases.
"This investigation determined they used the computers and other equipment to create false identifications and checks," said Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu. "The suspects then purchased computers and other items and later sold them at pawn shops. Laptop computers and other equipment were seized both in their vehicle and at a pawn shop."
Colby and Mancuso were booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for organized retail theft, fraud schemes, possession of forgery device, forgery, criminal impersonation, taking the identity of another person and their outstanding warrants.
