BAKER CITY, OR (KPTV/AP) -
A 14-year-old boy shot and killed two men at a deer hunting camp in Eastern Oregon on Thursday, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office.
The Associated Press reports one of the victims has been identified as the boy's foster father.
Deputies said the boy was at a hunting cabin with 43-year-old Michael Piete, the foster father, and 64-year-old Kenneth Gilliland. He shot both men, and then fled the scene on foot, deputies said.
Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer said Friday that two guns were involved -- a hunting rifle and a revolver -- and the shootings occurred about the same time, with one victim shot inside the cabin and one outside, according to an Associated Press report.
Investigators released a graphic photo of the cabin Friday, which shows blood and a gun on the floor.
At some point during the boy's getaway, he accidentally shot himself in his leg, a sheriff's spokesman said. He then returned to the group's hunting cabin and pleaded for help from someone else who was staying there.
That person then held the boy at gunpoint and told him to lay down on the floor of the cabin. The person then physically restrained the teen and duct taped him to a chair to keep him there.
Deputies said the cabin's owner drove to the town of Granite, where he sought out help from police. Three deputies responded and then took charge of the crime scene.
The 14-year-old boy was taken to Blue Mountain Hospital and then flown to St. Alphonsuos in Boise. He's expected to recover from his gunshot wound to the leg.
Piete, Gilliland and the teen all live in the Baker City area. The teen suspect is not being identified by authorities at this time.
Oregon State Police and a major crimes team are still investigating what led up to the shooting. Deputies have not said whether a motive has been established.
