DALLAS, Oct. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Civil litigation attorney Jody Sheets, who has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of cases for more than 42 years, is rejoining the law firm Hicks Thomas LLP in its Dallas office, where he practiced a decade ago.
Honored among the state's top civil litigators in the annual Texas Super Lawyers list, Mr. Sheets is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Mr. Sheets' work over the years meshes neatly with Hicks Thomas' core areas. His cases range from personal injury and pharmaceutical litigation to energy and contractual disputes. He has handled a number of significant cases involving oil and gas contracts, winning substantial verdicts and settlements for both plaintiffs and defendants.
"We all look forward to Jody's return to Hicks Thomas," says Hicks Thomas co-founder John B. Thomas. "His wealth of knowledge and experience will add real value for our clients and our firm."
Mr. Sheets' career highlights include his highly publicized win at the Supreme Court of Texas in a decade-long property dispute over shifting boundaries along the Canadian River. Mr. Sheets won the day for a group of landowners that included oilman T. Boone Pickens and the prominent Whittenburg family of Amarillo after the state's highest court reaffirmed the method used to determine river boundaries in Texas.
"I've known the lawyers at Hicks Thomas, particularly those in the Houston office, for many years," says Mr. Sheets, who worked at the firm from 1999-2002. "They're a very talented bunch and I look forward to rejoining the firm in Dallas."
